Biography
Dr. Pomi Mahanta is an Asst. Professor at the Centre for Counselling, School of Social Work, TISS Guwahati Campus since September 2023. She holds a Master's Degree in Social Work, specialization in Counseling. Her pursuit of knowledge led her to attain a two years MPhil degree in Psychiatric Social Work, followed by a full time PhD in Psychiatric Social Work. Her doctoral research was on "Life Skills among School going Adolescents". Her academic journey reflects her dedication in the field of Mental Health and Counseling. She has qualified UGC- NET and contributes significantly in research and teaching . Her research interests are in the field of Mental health, Disability, Life skills, Rehabilitation, Homelessness, Child & Adolescent Mental health. She teaches Bachelor and Master's level courses at TISS, Guwahati. Before her tenure at TISS, Guwahati, she served as an Assistant Professor at Department of Psychiatric Social Work, Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Regional Institute of Mental health, Tezpur, Assam. Her involvement extended to cordinating placement/ internship programme and was acting as a PSW faculty consultant at Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Unit. She has a five years of clinical experience in the field of Mental Health.
