Biography
Dr. Kanchan Mukherjee is a Professor at the Centre for Health Policy, Planning and Management in the School of Health Systems Studies. Prof. Mukherjee completed his MBBS from Seth GS Medical College and KEM Hospital, Mumbai and MD in Preventive and Social Medicine (PSM) from Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College and Sion Hospital, Mumbai. He also has specializations in Public Health (gold medalist), Health Policy and Health Economics. Prof. Mukherjee completed his PhD research on Healthcare Innovations, Ecosystems and UHC. He also completed the NIH Fogarty Postdoctoral Fellowship (2003) from the University of California, Los Angeles ( UCLA, USA ) in HIV/AIDS research. He completed MSc. in International Health Policy (2008), with distinction in Health Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science ( LSE, UK ). He is the India represenattaive at the HTAi Asia Policy Forum. Prof. Mukherjee has over 26 years of teaching, training and research experience. He has over 80 publications in the fields of public health, health systems and policy analysis, economic evaluation, Health Technology Assessment (HTA), urban health, HIV/AIDS, non-communicable diseases (NCDs), and healthcare innovations. Prof. Mukherjee is the Founding Convener of the MPH programme in Health Policy, Economics and Finance (HPEF), which was started in 2010 at TISS in collaboration with LSE, UK. This programme is the only Masters programme for HTA capacity building in South Asia and listed in the HTAi online database on progammes and courses in HTA. Prof. Mukherjee has been a recipient of many awards and international fellowships. He has also been a visiting faculty at the Karolinska Institute (Sweden) and the University of Liverpool (UK). Prof. Mukherjee is a member of the WHO GBD collaborator network, Global Consortium on Public Health Research, International Society of Infectious Diseases, ISPOR, HTAi Asia Policy Forum, HTAsiaLink, Epidemiology Foundation of India and a faculty expert with the Dept. of Health Research (Government of India) for training scientists in evidence-informed policy making and writing policy briefs. He is an editorial board member of Health Policy & Technology journal and a reviewer for Harvard Business Review. Prof. Mukherjee is invited as an external examiner for PhD at various institutions across India, including IIT Bombay, IIT Madras, IIT Gandhinagar, Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) Chandigarh, Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences & Technology (SCTIMST), International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS), etc. Prof. Mukherjee has been invited as a Plenary Speaker, Keynote Speaker and Expert to many international conferences and meetings in the USA (Stanford University), UK (UoL, Imperial College London, U of York), Germany (HTAi Annual Meeting, Cologne), Sweden (Karolinska Institute), Iran (Tehran University of Medical Sciences), Thailand (Bangkok, Chiang Mai), Japan, Indonesia, Vietnam, Singapore, South Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, as well as at various institutions across India.
